General election Q
Q: Can I still register to vote in this election?
A: Nope.
Q: Did many people vote in the primary?
A: Of the county’s 339,754 registered voters, 95,300 voted in the primary. That’s about 28 percent of those registered.
Q: What’s the deadline for voting?
A: Ballots must be returned or postmarked no later than Nov. 6.
Q: When will the ballots be counted?
A: On Nov. 6, the county will count what ballots it has received to that point. After that, it will count ballots as they’re received.
Q: Whom do I contact if I have an election question?
A: Contact the elections office, at the Auditor’s Office at the County Administration Campus, 3000 Rockefeller Ave., Everett, 425-388-3444, or www1.co.snohomish.wa.us/Departments/Auditor/Divisions/Elections_Voting/.
Q: On my ballot, what if I mistakenly vote for one person and want to correct that?
A: Mark an X through the mistake and mark the correct name correctly.
Q: Are there any other do’s and don’ts?
A: Do use a pencil or pen to mark your ballot. Don’t use a felt pen. Do vote for just one candidate per race or “yes” or “no” for a ballot measure. If you vote for more than one candidate in a race, your vote in that race won’t be counted. Do remember to put a stamp on the envelope containing your ballot. Don’t sign or initial your ballot. If you do, the entire ballot will be canceled.
Q: How many people in the county will vote in the election?
A: Unknown. The past couple of times the county executive was up for election (as is the case this year), 179,842 people voted (59 percent of those registered) in 1999 and 130,835 voted (40 percent) in 2003. But there are 25,000 more registered voters now than in 2003. The highest vote total in the county came in 2004, a presidential election year, when nearly 297,000 voted (84 percent).
Q: Where can I drop off my ballot if I don’t want to mail it?
